Urban traffic noise (engine sound, horns, sirens, etc.), because it is a source of irritation that can affect the hospital environment, depending on its sound pressure level, contributes to the reduction of the welfare of patients and resident populations In their vicinity, and may have negative effects on their health, such as stress, etc. Therefore, this case study aims to measure the average equivalent levels of noise (LEQ) in the vicinity of 03 (three) hospitals in Curitiba, in order to know the exposure of health professionals and passers-by, and whether these sound values are above Permitted by law. The methodology adopted for the measurements, has as reference the norm NBR 10151, which establishes criteria for the pressure gauges and for the measurement conditions. The measurements of the noise levels were made during 01 (one) week, always at the time of 17 to 19 hours. They concentrated on 08 (eight) points of the main access routes, in the vicinity of the aforementioned hospitals, each one repeated five times during 01 (one) week. The results obtained were compared with the Municipal Ordinary Law of Curitiba N º 10625, of December 19, 2002, which defines that in the daytime period (07h 01min to 19:00) The sound pressure limit is 65dB (A) for the central zone, and showed that some points of Measurements were above the limit permitted by the said Law. It was Concluded that the noise levels found exceeded the limit of the municipal Law. Thus, simple and objective actions are recommended, such as the use of hybrid engines for bus and truck fleets.
