dc.description.abstract | The number of diabetics in Brazil and in the worlds adds up to a significant amount that tends to increase over the years, therefore, this thesis presents the development of a lowcost smart and portable insulin pump prototype that allows a better treatment of the disease and increases the quality of life of this population. To make this prototype, the recommendations of the Brazilian Society of Diabetes for pumps with continuous monitoring sensors were followed so that the functioning of the prototype can be considered safe. In this work, the prototype was not tested in real patients, making it necessary to use a simulator, the chosen simulator applies a glucose model approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). After obtaining satisfactory results in the simulator, it was built the prototype itself. The prototype’s insulin flow was compared with the simulator’s insulin flow in order to validate the prototype’s performance. | |
