dc.description.abstractThe present work has the objective of designing an equipment that can be used to extract essential oils by the steam distillation process, where mechanical, structural and designer parts of the equipment, materials used and heat transfer concepts involved in the process were investigated. Steam distillation is the most commonly used extraction process for being easy and does not require a lot of specific or expensive equipment. The results show satisfactory results for a first project in which several areas of mechanical engineering (materials, heat transfer, thermodynamics, materials resistance, manufacturing processes and welding) were evaluated for the operation of the equipment.
