dc.description.abstractThe development of the financial market has led to the provision of complex products and services. The role of the State in the social protection of individuals has been gradually reduced. Due to demographic, economic and political changes, financial education has become an essential skill for individuals. The present work aims to evaluate the insertion of financial education in extension actions in Brazilian public universities. To achieve the objective, dimensions of comparative analysis of extension actions in financial education were established. To construct the dimensions, principles and practices of financial education established in the literature and by international organizations were used. The actions promoted under the National Financial Education Strategy were identified. Data were collected through consultation with proposals, work plans and reports of extension actions in financial education, made available by universities. The actions were compared, and the recurrent patterns identified. The courses related to area of Administration, Accounting and Economics are the ones that offer the most extension actions in financial education. The most frequent partnership is with public schools. Elementary and high school students are the priority audience. The actions aim to raise awareness among participants, contribute to personal financial planning and improve quality of life. They are organized into projects, courses, events, programs and service provision. The most used methodological strategies are lectures, courses, workshops, advice and material distribution. Planning, investment, indebtedness and conscious consumption are the most addressed topics. The actions are evaluated, and the results are used in the planning of the following editions. The participation of the external community in the development of actions is limited. The analysis of the data from the established dimensions allowed us to conclude that the actions developed by the universities align with the principles and guidelines established by international organizations, researchers and the National Strategy of Financial Education. The work is classified as applied qualitative research, descriptive, which uses bibliographic and documentary sources.
