dc.description.abstractAraucaria angustifolia is the list of endangered species, because of the large indiscriminate exploitation suffered historically. This scenario can be reversed with the realization of new versed scientific research in improvement and forestry. The objective of this study was to evaluate genetic differences of the species A. angustifolia from qualitative variables and youth quantitative in test provenances and progeny, as subsidy for the formation of seed orchards. We collected the superior genetic material from two different regions of southern Brazil, located in the Municipal Natural Park of Araucaria, municipality of Guarapuava-PR and a rural property located in the municipality of Palmeira-SC. Data collection began in June 2015, followed by daily and monthly evaluations. The information was obtained according to the three members of the project stages, that is, selection of matrices and collection of material, production of seedlings in forest nursery and laboratory tests. The selection of matrices was carried out with your potential of genetic variability. We evaluate the matrices according to the characteristics and sanity as well as harvested pinecones will be evaluated for their weight, volume and sanity. We selected 14 matrices from the Palmeira-SC and 10 matrices from the Guarapuava-PR provenance. In the second stage, the seeds were sown in commercial substrate and forwarded to the greenhouse at the Federal Technological University of Paraná - Campus Dois Vizinhos (UTFPR-DV), under iirrigated by spraying, temperature and air relative humidity controlled. In this step, it was evaluated the percentage of emergence, emergence speed (ES), mean emergence time (MET), stem diameter (Sd) and total height. All data collected, both arrays selection phase, production of seedlings in forest nursery and growth of seedlings in orchard area, in a way compared between their provenances (Palmeira / SC and Guarapuava / PR) 15 progenies of each provenance, were submitted to analysis of Variance and Scott-Knott test. Previously to this data will be submitted to Lilliefors normality test. The genetic diversity were evaluated by the method of nearest-neighbor clustering, using Mahalanobis distance as a measure of dissimilarity and with principal components (PC). All statistical analyzes will be performed in computer application in genetics and statistics - GENES® and R software. There is genetic variability between provenances and progenies for most of the quantitative traits studied for Araucaria angustifolia and, therefore, the possibility of obtaining gains by selection between and within provenances. Selection among and within provenances suggests the possibility of capitalizing on large genetic gains, especially for characters of weight and diameter of the strobile, weight and number of pine by strobile (Araucaria angustifolia seeds) and growth. The juvenile Araucaria angustifolia characters evaluated in the field and in the nursery presented high genetic control and can be used to evaluate the genetic variability of species samples.
