dc.description.abstractWater is a vitally important resource for the ecosystem and also for humanity, which uses it not only for their consumption, but also for carrying out daily activities. It is linked to the production of food, energy and is essential in industries, that is, it becomes indispensable for humanity and the maintenance of life on the planet. Communities located in rural areas generally do not have access to drinking water, and use available alternatives for their consumption, such as springs and wells, which may have compromised resource quality, so these communities are susceptible to various water-borne diseases. The objective of this work was to evaluate physical-chemical and microbiological parameters of the natural water source and the tap of the residence located on a rural property in the municipality of Francisco Beltrão. Temperature, pH, turbidity and microbiological analyzes were performed before and after protecting the spring. According to the results found in this work, the water samples were unfit for human consumption due to the presence of the bacterium Escherichia coli. With the protection of the spring it was possible to verify its absence through the analyzes carried out in the laboratory.
