dc.description.abstract | The growing level of material consumption by humans since the Industrial Revolution (18th century) has been considered one of the main causes of the most important and negative environmental impacts today. A kind of these impacts is the accumulation of industrial pollutants on natural areas, as is the case the element Barium, the main focus of this study. Among the available materials with potential to be used totreat contaminated residuals by Barium, studies have suggested bentonite clay, a material that presents very important characteristics to the adsorption process. In this way, this work aims to study the behavior of bentonite clay as adsorbent for the removal of barium. The clay used was calcined at different temperatures and the results indicated that with the increase of the calcination temperature, the adsorption values were lower. The results also indicate an influence on the adsorption capacity when the pH change occurs, presenting lower adsorption values in acid medium. | |
