The sliding test presents itself as an important tool to obtain mechanical properties of materials, such as coefficient of friction, hardness, coefficient of elasticity, and from this test the possibility of analysis of print morphologies arises. This test is characterized by the contact between two surfaces, with the aid of an applied preload followed by a tangential force acting to move one surface in the other. The objective of this work is to determine the characteristics of lateral deformation ("s / h" ratio) in a sphere-plane contact under scratch action, as well as to analyze the similarity of such results with values of the same ratio based on a hardness test (indentation) established, for three different materials; AISI 316l stainless steel, 6063-T5 aluminum and AISI 1020 carbon steel, through the properties found after sliding test, validating the test, where three forces were applied to each specimen of each material through a dozer that is displaced up to a certain length, providing a resistance of the surface of the material to be tested causing an accumulation of material in front of the nozzle forcing such material to flow around, with this a depth emerges in the tracks generated by the nozzle, this depth is one of the important values to be used, it should be noted that the test is performed at a given constant displacement speed so as not to affect the results. The three materials provided results that could be analyzed, corroborating the premise that the characteristics of lateral deformation under the scratch action, is very divergent compared to the indentation, but the behavior of the materials presented a similarity between scratch and indentation.
