The use of different packaging has become a means of competitive strategy regarding a more efficient distribution. The molded fiber packaging sector presents a high potential for growth. Organizations aim to reduce production costs and deliver products within the promised lead time, and to solve these trade-offs it is necessary to develop plans. The Material Requirements Planning (MRP) allows carrying out simulations with material purchases based on demand and production forecast, supporting decision making. This paper aims to propose a new method for raw material requirements planning in a molded fiber packaging company and, this way, analyze the accuracy on the demand forecast, propose an inventory management model and define the necessary parameters for calculating MRP. This paper is a case study conducted in a molded fiber packaging company. The main results comprise inventory management, with the objective of controlling and reducing inventory levels, reducing manual work and computerizing the system, and the proposed method for MRP, which allows a short-term vision of the production plans, conducting raw material purchase planning and prioritizing the production of certain products. Lastly, inventory levels can be optimized, costs can be reduced and deadlines for client’s orders can be met.
