dc.description.abstractBeing the main route for grain transportation in the state of Paraná, the BR-277presents in a large part of its extension, the traffic of loaded trucks that, due to the performance characteristics, in steeper slopes, trucks reduce the speed of operation and cause the formation of platoons. This results in increases in travel time, in the operational cost of the vehicle and in the possibility of accidents. A relatively simple and inexpensive solution to this problem is the additional lane, ancillary to the rolling lane and intended for heavy vehicle traffic. Therefore, the objective of this work is to evaluate the technical viability for the implementation of an additional lane in the BR- 277, in a slope located between the kilometer marks 111 and 113 in the western direction, based on the criteria established by ASSHTO. Based on the recommendations of the HCM and the DNIT, the critical length of the ramp, the volume at the project time, and the corresponding service level in the stretch were analyzed in order to establish the current traffic conditions. Through the results obtained in both recommendations, it was observed that the criteria of the ASSHTO are met. In this way, it becomes feasible to deploy an additional lane in the studied slope, which would provide road users more safety and comfort.
