Brazil stands out in the participation of the supply of energies obtained by renewable sources, however, there is much to be explored in relation to its potential in the production of biomass for energy purposes. The cassava starch manufactures, processing sector of cassava, are characterized as great generators of biomasses that are potentially polluters and rich in organic matter, being an alternative for the production of biogas. The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of biogas from the effluents of cassava starch manufacturers in the State of Paraná. The work methodology was the collection of secondary data in information platform, journals and technical manuals of starch-producing agroindustries, where variables such as physical-chemical parameters, effluent production estimation, biogas and electric energy were obtained. The results showed that the state of Paraná is one of the largest producers of effluent from cassava starch manufactures, around 11,982,720 m3/year, with potential for biogas production of 506,476.73 m3/year and methane production of 1,075 m3 for each 343 liters of effluent. In this case, the state contemplates a total of 42 active cooperatives in the region, with the opportunity to fulfill to the consumption of energy in the own generating industries. Therefore, the capture of biogas generated in the treatment of starch residues has proved to be efficient, due to its simplicity, economic factors and reduction of polluting effects.
