Soybean is the main crop produced and consumed worldwide. Producers are facing adverse situations because of the variation in production costs. Therefore, many farmers have chosen to save soybean seeds in some harvests to reduce the costs with commercial seeds. However, the farmers might be in a vulnerable situation because it is not known the real situation of these seeds for the subsequent sowing season. Moreover, the farmer is the most harmed because this situation discourages all agribusiness research sector in development of higher characteristics in new soybean cultivars. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the physical and physiological quality of seeds saved and commercials produced in southwest region of Parana State in order to characterize its technical feasibility. Soybean cultivars, as TMG 7262RR and SYN 1359S IPRO, were evaluated. Seed lots from both cultivars were sampled being three from a company who own RENASEM and three from farmers who saved to the next harvest season, respectively. Tests to analyse physical and physiological quality of these seeds, such as thousand seed weight, germination test, accelerated ageing, seedling length and uniformity in manual sieve were carried out by seed laboratory at Coopertradição in Pato Branco city. After five months in laboratory storage conditions where evaluated the productivity of these seed samples in the experimental area at UTFPR- Campus Dois Vizinhos. The results were submitted to statistical analysis variance and Tukey’s test. The physical and physiological evaluation has not a quality pattern distinct among seed lots, as saved and commercial, therefore some saved seed lots were similar to commercial lots. However, all commercials lots reached the quality pattern requested by legislation. On the other hand, saved seed lots did not reach this pattern of quality, thus there is no credibility to use them as seeds. The quality of seeds and lots precedence had no influence in grain productivity.
