The present research intends to analyze the residues of the civil construction, from the settlement of floors and coatings and quantify generated by the cut of the pieces, by comparing the variation of the measurements, respecting the most recurrent dimensions offered by the ceramic industry, which, when considering the dimensioning of the material and applied to the design process in a modular way, through a comparison between the original design and the resized modulation, suggests the reduction of the residue and the environmental sustainability. To do so, it is necessary to contextualize the growth of contemporary cities and the interference of human actions in the environment, which directly influences the expansion of civil construction. The sector, which is a strong agent in the economy of the country and the world, is also considered one of the largest consumers of natural resources, because it uses energy intensively, both in construction, use and maintenance. Through technical drawing software and from the identification of the most recurrent floor and coating designs in the market, to compare geometrically to the residential buildings of multiple floors of Pato Branco and to quantify the generated waste, analyzing the modular interference in the design rationalization of the use of the material raw material, which can reduce by up to 65.03%, in the residue of the laying of floors and coatings. The discussion is salutary, since it strengthens sustainable thinking in the construction industry, which is pointed out as the human activities sector that consumes the most natural resources and uses energy intensively.
