While pre-cast concrete building has gained more market and greater heights are reached, there is more concern about the possibility of exceptional actions may induce the problem of progressive collapse. In order to contribute with techniques for design of progressive collapse resistant buildings, this work presents a methodology based on geometrically nonlinear static and dynamic analysis to be applied during the structural design. In order to get this methodology, we begin with the study of mechanisms and characteristics of such problems. From these studies, we observe the necessity of employing structural analysis which at least admit large displacements and considers the dynamic effects. So we choose to work with twodimensional frame elements in a geometric nonlinear formulation. The proposed methodology is employed and numerically tested for building structural models with several floors, showing to be very efficient from the numerical point of view.
