Melhoria da linha de produção de ração para bovinos: estudo de caso em uma empresa de nutrição animal

Abstract

Many limiting factors negatively influence the productivity of companies. However, identifying the causes that originate a performance below expected is not a simple task. An option is to approach one of the aspects of the productive system and evaluate its influence on the outcome of the production. In this project, a case study was conducted on a feed manufacturer for cattle that has gotten a capacity index 25% lower than expected on the production line. Many aspects can affect this result. Nonetheless, the goal was to improve the productivity of the feed manufacturing line through the analysis of equipment used in the production process. Based on the specifications of the current machinery configuration, collected at the plant, and the characteristics of the main products of the company, defined by the Pareto’s Principle, it was possible to define the equipment operating capacity. This feature was the basis for the application of the Theory of Constraints to investigate and minimize the main bottleneck in this production system. As a result, it was possible to determine a proposal equipment change that provides an 11% increase in the hourly production rate of feed.
