dc.description.abstractThe construction sector has a high participation in the consumption of natural resources and waste generation, in addition to having low productivity when compared to other industries. Due to its economic form and the impacts of its activities, the construction sector is increasingly seeking to implement solutions aimed at increasing productivity and at the same time contributing to sustainable development. Inspired by the Toyota Production System, an example of productivity and efficiency in the automobile industry, a Lean Construction, adapted techniques and principles for civil construction with the reduction of wasted time, materials, among others. The objective of this work is to demonstrate that although lean philosophy does not explicitly present a relationship with sustainability, both can work in synergy. Through a case study, the Kata methodology was applied in the internal painting process of popular apartments, in order to verify how much this lean construction method can contribute to sustainability. The results showed a reduced reduction of waste and costs through the implementation of lean principles, using tools such as flow mapping, takt time and detailed analysis of processes. It was found that a lean philosophy can bring benefits to the sustainability of a building, as they aim to reduce waste and increase the efficiency of their activities.
