The use of renewable energy has been the subject of research especially in recent decades, the probable scarcity of fossil fuels and the environmental impacts. In this context solar energy is gaining focus of several studies by presenting some advantages as: low maintenance, low noise, obtaining electricity directly from sunlight and one of the most important characteristics, the possibility of producing energy close to the point of consumption. A power generation system very common, based on photovoltaic technology, is the isolated. As the generation of energy based on photovoltaic technologies occurs intermittently, to supply loads with continuous profile is required auxiliary energy storage, to provide energy during periods of low or no generation. In isolated systems a battery bank is responsible for this task. The cost of the storage system is high, so this does not make it impossible the installation of such a system should ensure maximum lifespan of your components. Thus special care must be taken with the batteries over its charge cycle so as not to jeopardize his life. The work in question presents the design and implementation of a microprocessor controlled battery charger for photovoltaic application based on a DC-DC converter Cuk. Furthermore one holds the load curve for the batteries is applied using digital control techniques using a microcontroller.
