This work aimed to analyze physicochemical hydrogels (hydrophilic polymers) based on polyacrylamide (PAAm) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC). For this in the synthesis was carried out the addition of clay to the polymer matrix of the hydrogel. In this way hydrogels of PAAm / CMC with equivalent clay mass were produced in the percentages of 50%, 33%, 25%, 20%. From the synthesis of the hydrogels the amount of water that the hydrogel is able to absorb was quantified and this was quantified from the degree of swelling, where in comparing the hydrogels with addition of clay, which obtained a higher degree of swelling and therefore absorbed more water was the hydrogel with 20% clay. The kinetic parameters of swelling of these hydrogels were also analyzed in this work and it was verified that the hydrogel that swelled the fastest was the hydrogel with percentage of clay in 33%. In addition, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves were analyzed in order to verify that the addition of clay increases the thermal stability of the hydrogel. The analysis of the main components was also carried out the analysis of medium infrared (MIR), near infrared (NIR) and DSC. In this application it was possible to differentiate structurally the trends of the hydrogels in their different concentrations.
