dc.description.abstractTemperature monitoring in a silo is necessary because temperature is the main factor involved in the deterioration of stored grain. By controlling the temperature it is possible to reduce losses due to the proliferation of fungi and to avoid the germination of the grains. This work proposes a system for monitoring the internal temperature of a silo and the temperature and humidity of the incoming air in the silo. Monitoring uses SCADABR supervisory software for storing and viewing temperature and humidity data. This supervisory software communicates via an RS-485 bus using Modbus protocol with the sensing devices. The system hardware uses sensors and microcontrollers to collect data for supervisory software. The system provides alarms and sends e-mail to registered users when reached predetermined temperatures, thus allowing the operator of the silo the decision making.
