The voltage stability became a topic of great importance for distribution systems due to the increase of load demand and integration of renewable energy sources through distributed generation. Static analysis techniques, such as P-V and Q-V, stability index, and sensitivity index, are typically employed in voltage stability studies. The use of these tools helps to prevent voltage instability and provides important information about the voltage stability margin and about the voltage regulation characteristic of power systems. This work presents and correlates the typical tools employed in the voltage stability studies, evaluating the effect of the distribution network characteristics and the integration level of distributed generation. The studies were carried out based on two test systems, a fictitious system with 5 bus and a 33 bus system, typically employed in voltage stability studies. The carried out studies evaluates the effects of cable X/R ratio and the effects of different levels of integration of distributed generation with different power factors. Based on the carried out analyses, it can be concluded that these tools are useful for planning and operation of the distribution system, enabling the implementation of preventive measures to avoid voltage instability and proposition of effective strategies for voltage control.
