Abstract

The Brazilian livestock production moves a large market in the national economy, coexisting in a system of animal husbandry mostly conducted via pastures. However, the quality of seeds and the characteristic market of forage species seeds suffers from problems from production to commercialization. The absence of technical information, the lack of training and, as attributions of specific legislation, directly influence the supply of seeds with guaranteed quality to consumers. Thus, the work aimed to diagnose a supply and demand for forage species seeds in the trade in the city of Pato Branco - PR. The methodology consisted of applying an online questionnaire with 15 questions to nine forage seed traders and another with 12 questions to 50 producers in Pato Branco - PR. It was concluded that most seeds commercialized in Pato Branco - PR are located in states such as Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Goiás and Mato Grosso. There is a greater supply of forage seeds in the winter period, but the demand is constant throughout the year. Most consumers are aware of the genetic, physical, physiological and health quality when purchasing forage seeds. All packaging of seeds sold and points of sale are registered and inspected, as well as an invoice from the seed producer. Most seed packages are sealed, original from the seed producer or repackager. All traders are registered on Renasem / MAPA. Most traders carry out some type of analysis or sampling on commercialized seeds. The most cultivated forages in Pato Branco - PR are oats (white and black), ryegrass, wheat, millet and brachiaria.
