Although widely used, mortars are still characterised by high incidence of pathologies, long hours of labour, high production costs and also variation of its quality. The efficiency of a mortar depends on the quality of its materials, as well as the correct application of the right mixing ratios for each specific service. This paper has as its objective to compare mortars with different types of lime, being these: quicklime, hydrated lime and liquid lime; and to analyse the performance of each one according to the results of tests carried out in its fresh and hardened states. It was used Portland cement CP II E 32 and fine aggregate with medium grain size. It was produced mortar with mixing ratios in volume of cement, lime and fine aggregate 1:1:6 and 1:3:8 for the mortars made with quicklime and hydrated lime, and mortars with volume of cement and fine aggregate 1:6 and 1:8 for the mortars made with liquid lime. With the mortars in their fresh state, it was determined the consistency index by running three iterations for each mortar variation, both in mixing ratio and variety of lime, while for the hardened state the resistance to compression and the capillary water absorption were determined, using four specimens for each mortar for each ratio, totalling then 24 specimens for each test. The results showed that the mortars which were produced with quicklime and hydrated lime present the best workability, however the quicklime mortar presents the worst performance in relation to water absorption and resistance to compression. The hydrated lime mortar presented the best performance in relation to resistance to compression, while the liquid lime mortar presented better performance in relation to water absorption.
