Erva-mate (Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil) is a native tree species of southern Latin America region, with great economic, social and cultural importance for the countries where it is found, including Brazil. The dominant type of herbal cultivation is held by growth from sprouts, generally with no choice criteria and with low level of productivity. An option to avoid generation from sprouts and promote hereditary additions is through vegetative propagation techniques, which is taking place to extraordinary significance in ranches of woodland species in Brazil. Therefore, the point of this study was to build up profitable convention for vegetative propagation of Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil., adopting the air layering technique, in a erva-mate plantation 10 years of age, situated in UTFPR Campus Dois Vizinhos. By the way, different concentrations of IBA were employed (0, 2,000 and 4,000 mg L-¹), two application methods (drops and cotton), and three diverse bundling covering [transparent plastic bundle (12 μ - 15 x 30 cm), lined bundling with aluminum foil and dark plastic bundling]. The air layering was soaked month to month with 60 mL of water, the analysis was kept up on trial for 180 days. After this period, the examination was made of the percentage of callus on branches, the number and length of the three major radicles (cm) and the percentage of rooting and live air-layered branches. By and large, it was understood that the components which remarkably affected the outcomes found, were the application method of the solution and the kind of bundling resorted. The handling of cotton for IBA application was the most productive procedure, with 21.47% rooting of air layers. The use of bundling which concentrate more noteworthy measure of warmth, dark and transparent bundling with aluminum foil, were more successful establishing, with 19.49% and 9.65%, respectively. The IBA concentrations tested, both detached and in communication with different variables did not impact the extrinsic rhizogenesis of the branches.
