dc.description.abstractThe extraction and commercialization of pinion is a common activity and is part of the tradition of southern Brazil. The sale usually occurs alongside highways, in tents, and the forms of the product are: pinion/kg, pine nuts or pine nuts cooked. Through the question applied to merchants, it was observed that the trade of this product is made by family farmers and low-income families. The people involved in this activity Act on illegality, because there isn't any or placement of Government incentives. The value of the product is greatly changed according to the supply and demand of each vintage. And is established by the collectors and not by the sellers. This commercialization of Jatropha can reflect on awareness for preservation for the Araucaria forest. The activity can ensure sustainability of forests of Araucarias, once to get the product shipped must protect these forests. Through the interviews it was observed that there is a class of merchants who get their yearly income or almost all of this activity. Through the values raised with the traders and the values charged respectively, the amount of pine nuts in the year 2015 was over the years 2013 and 2014, however it was reported the difficulty of obtaining the desirable price, since the offer was greater in the year 2015. Also the price sold in markets was the same as the tents. Through this hard time of sale at the price at which it was desirable, the marketing period was higher than that in previous years. The number of people involved in the activity varies depending on the availability of pinion to be purchased of the collectors.
