The present study aims to verify if teachers use music to teach new vocabularies and cultural aspects in a foreign language, how often they use it, what motivates them or not to use it and what beliefs teachers have regarding the effectiveness of the use of songs in the classroom for the teaching/ learning of a foreign language. Culture concepts are explored and reasons for teaching it in the classroom are exposed. Since music is a cultural production of a people, it becomes a rich resource for gaining new knowledge of other nationalities, especially for foreign language students. The study consists of bibliographical research on the subject and a belief questionnaire given to teachers of two schools of the public regular education system of the city of Curitiba in the state of Paraná. The result of the questions is shown through graphics to visualize what the teachers answered in each closed or multiple choice question. The analysis of this questionnaire is presented and commented with a view to discussing and reaching at new beliefs to use and apply music with greater effectiveness in the classroom. The results of the questions asked in the belief questionnaire show that teachers are unanimous in agreeing that music is important for learning new vocabulary in foreign languages and that besides working with usual linguistic aspects, it is possible to work on other aspects, for example, cultural, through foreign songs in class
