This work aims to validate the optical sensors based on fiber Bragg gratings for temperature monitoring in electrical machines (transformer and motor). The temperature parameter is of great importance in preventive maintenance systems, predictive and corrective machines. In addition to providing proper maintenance, monitoring of this parameter can prevent failures in production and economic losses systems. Validation of thermal sensing using sensors based on Bragg gratings is made from and characterizations tests, the exposed optical sensors and the encapsulation object. For characterization, the sensor calibration is performed using temperature control systems such as Peltier and drying oven. From these systems are the sensitivity coefficients observed (analysis result of the change in wavelength due to increased temperature) which will be used for determining the temperature points required in machines that were sensitized by the sensor during the test. For the test with the transformer sensors were positioned on the winding, and the motor stator between the grooves. Finally, the optical sensors sensitive to the heating of the machine are a thermal difference, having been positioned and spaced on the transformer winding and the motor stator.
