dc.description.abstractThe Geoprocessing is widely used in Brazil in several areas, and it has expanded its use in forestry. By owning several tools, among them the Geographic Information System (GIS) its use has been expanding since this tool can combine spatial information with the attributes and thus a multivariate information analysis is obtained, which facilitates and indicates the best decisions to be taken. In forest plantations, the location of trees is considered a spatial information and the information of height and diameter of trees make up the information considered attribute. The combination of this information creates a database with greater complexity, that best represents the study area.Thus the comparison between áreas with different spacings is energized, and it makes the understanding of the elements represented easier. Thus the aim of this study was to use GIS to compare two áreas with different spacings in an area with planting Parapiptadenia rigida through maps. The survey took place in the year 2016, which gave the location, height and diameter of all trees. Subsequently the data were tabulated in a spreadsheet, calculated the volume of each tree and then there was the formation of a database. Following the location data and the tabulated data have undergone an interaction so that the áreas to receive database information, and be presented in the form of maps. Respecting the appropriate visual variables as the cartographic standards were generated maps of diametric and volumetric classes. The total volume per area and the average annual increment of each plot was calculated and extrapolated to one hectare for better comparison. Thus, it was possible to indicate that the spacing of 2.0 x 2.0m (less dense) is better than the 1.5 x 2.0m (denser) for the development of this species.
