dc.description.abstractWorldwide, many farmers use irrigation systems for their crops. They usually use highpower centrifugal or axial pumps powered by electrical energy or combustion engines. This technique provides increased productivity, in addition to adding quality to the food produced. The installation and operation costs of conventional irrigation systems often become onerous. An alternative pumping system using a fluid machine of the helical hose pump type (also known as a manometric pump or barrel pump) powered by hydraulic energy from the river often proves feasible. A helical hose pump model was built to perform experiments and understand the physical nature behind this type of pumping. It was found that there is a fraction of water in the spiral, Sr= 0.5, in which the water pumping reaches higher elevation heights concerning the pump level, and it is valid for any tilt angle used in this study. Also, inclination angles do not interfere with the flow. The greater the rotation of the pump barrel, the greater the flow, but the lifting height decreases. It is concluded that the effect of air pumping (i.e., air bubbles inside the hose) significantly contributes to the functioning of this type of pump.
