dc.description.abstract | Swirling flows are common occurrence in Nature and engineering equipment. They are frequently used in gas turbines, kilns, burners and cyclones. For instance, cyclonic devices take advantage of swirling flow for separating solid particles from a gaseous stream. Oil-water separation can be improved by using a cyclone. Oil-water, gas-oil and gas-oil-water separators are a fundamental requirement in many industrial process such as the offshore petroleum production. A simple phase segregation device based on the generation of swirling flow which can be directly installed in a pipeline is the axial hydrocyclone. The present work is aimed at better understanding the flow, as well as the friction factor in a single-phase flow with rotating at different Reynolds numbers between 800 and 1800. And also validate the study by numerical methods using the mechanical package of PHOENICS® computational fluids. | |
