Corporate governance is a system that companies are directed and controlled to specify the rights and responsibilities among their members. With the need for IT governance, which integrates corporate governance to monitor the company‟s business, frameworks were created with the objective of assisting this management. Among these, ITIL stands out for being a library of best practices in IT service management that is most accepted worldwide, which divides the service cycle into five main stages. Of the stages, the transition of the service life cycle defines the management of configuration and IT assets. An IT asset is any component or item, intangible or not, that is part of or helps IT infrastructure. The management of IT assets directly impact the business, as technological resources increasingly represent value to companies, só it is necessary to store this information in a Configuration Management DataBase (CMDB) specified by ITIL. GLPI is a free ITSM software, available under GNU GPL license, which is compatible with ITIL processes for IT assets management. GLPI promotes this management throughout its cycle, starting from its acquisition until deactivation, through extension tools available in its catalog, delivering this control and ensuring access to management reports that are useful to the business. Easy to install, maintain and manage, GLPI was chosen to manage the IT assets of a company in the hospital sector, with approximately 300 employees, located in Curitiba capital of the state Paraná, Brazil, based on the best practices of ITIL framework.
