Producing according to customer needs in batch production systems requires constant setups, which aim to minimize production costs, inventories and time between the production of the last part of the previous product and the first part of the next product. The Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) Method was developed by Shigeo Shingo in the Toyota group, aiming at the systematic reduction of setup times, aiming to increase production capacity through the use of machines for longer during the workday, minimizing stocks and production lead time through smaller batches, which enable greater production flexibility. The SMED method reduces defects, delivery delays and storage costs, in addition to increasing productivity, customer satisfaction and profitability. Thus, this study proposes to apply the SMED method in an extrusion line for the production of hoses in an automobile products industry located in the state of Paraná. For this, a bibliographical review was carried out through the consultation of articles about the method. After the application of the SMED tool, improvements were proposed to reduce setup time on the production line, the proposed actions make it possible to obtain a decrease of approximately 42.93% of the current setup time of the production line, representing weekly gains of 1 hour, 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
