This work presents an evaluation study of the degradation of atrazine by advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), pesticides, high-risk human health and the environment in general. This study was conducted at the Laboratório de Análises Cromatográficas da Central de Análises, located in Pato Branco – PR, UTFPR campus. Atrazine has been studied from the chromatographic analysis according to the accumulated routine laboratory. The concentration of the contaminant found was a 19 μg.L-1, much higher than the value allowed by Brazilian legislation (Ordinance N° 1469 of December 2000, the Ministry of Health) in place, which is a 2 μg.L-1, this way, so that its release can be made into receiving bodies is warranted prior treatment. In an attempt to develop an efficient methodology for the degradation of atrazine and its intermediates, we used the POAs Fenton and photo-Fenton with a batch reactor with a capacity of 500 mL of sample with temperature control, agitation and a source of irradiation of 125 watts of capacity. The results obtained proved that the POAs have been shown to degrade atrazine molecule. However the formation of by products was confirmed by additional chromatographic peak retention times lower than that of atrazine, suggesting the formation of intermediate products are aromatic and non aromatic nature coming from the photodegradation process.
