Abstract

This work proposes the elaboration of a methodology for the dimensioning of the braking system of a competition Baja prototype. The objective is to report the improvement of the project in the braking system of the Baja Gralha Azul team for the 25th Baja SAE BRASIL Competition. It demonstrates how the calculations were performed to find the forces acting on the vehicle during the deceleration, as well as the forces necessary for the vehicle reach the immobility. It discusses how the materials used in the prototype were selected. It is reported the tests to discover the position of the vehicle's center of gravity and the friction coefficient between the brake pad material and the brake disc. Finally, the results obtained with the improvement of the system during the competition are shown and the points of improvement for the futures brakes projects of the Baja Gralha Azul team are presented.
