Biomass for energy production is used in the whole world, for long time, however its consumption decreased over time, especially due to fossil fuel substitution. In Brazil biomass expresses great potential in the form of agroforestry byproducts, available for power generation, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable energy resource. The objective of this work was to characterize the moisture content and the apparent density of chipped Pinus spp., in three different storage methodologies. The analysis of apparent density and wet basis moisture content were performed weekly owing all the exposure during the exposure time of the material. The treatments used to store the samples were: (T1) soil naked and without covering; (T2) covered soil without covering; (T3) Covered soil and with covering. By the end of the evaluation period, the moisture content of T3 reached 17.97% obtained at the end of the evaluation period, differing statistically from T2 reached 33.03% and T1 reached 42.95%. The apparent density (g/cm³) of T3 (0.19), differing statistically from T2 (0.27) and T1 (0.28), which did not differ in moisture content or apparent density. The treatment T3 resulted with the driest samples, compared to the treatments devoid of any coverage, being this method the most the most suitable for application of storage of chip.
