This work presents the study and implementation of a LED bulb driver for residencial purposes. Initially, the basic concepts necessary for the comparative study of LED lamps with the other forms of residential lighting are defined. Then, the possible techniches of LED driving are presented, and are introduced, in this context, the DC-DC switched converters. The study is directed to the DC-DC buck-boost converter, witch enables the active power factor correction when operating on discontinuous conduction mode. The converter project is performed to meet the operating point set for the LED load, and it is validated by computer simulations. The driver prototype is implemented in printed circuit boards and the practical results are compared with those of simulations.
