Following the recent technological advances achieved by humanity, especially in recent years, the consumption of electric energy by residential consumers has increased considerably. This consumption is not uniform over the day, it is concentrate on the peak hours, so this work presents the development of a meter able to measure the energy consumed in each period of the day. It introduce a theoretical study which is the base of the development of the smart three-phase electronic meter for active power. It shows the firmware development that provides the correct the smart meter functioning. It also presents the prototype of the smart meter developed with the purpose of measuring the electric energy measurement in readings cycles ruled by the power distribution company, obtaining the energy values in three different periods of the day, according to the white hourly rate, presenting the economic feasibility diagnosis of that consumer unit choice for a rate modality. It presents the results collected in a laboratory test, comparing the measurements performed by the smart meter with the measurements of three analog wattmeters.
