This paper was developed having as object of study the street lighting of Peabiru, placed on Paraná. It aims to compare and evaluate the luminous efficiency of high pressure sodium-vapor lamps and LED’s. The evaluations followed the method described in the NBR 5101:1992. Once the technical features were compared, it was calculated the payback of the investment made by Peabiru’s tonw hall in the substitution of the old lighting system by LED. The results shown that LED has a greater illuminance and dazzle compared to the high pressure sodium-vapor lamp. However, the high pressure sodium-vapor lamps presented greater uniformity factor. Both lamps presented results according to the minimum requirements established by the NBR 5101:1992. The payback shows that the investment done will not be payed or bring any profit, once it is greater than the LED’s médium life.
