dc.description.abstractIn this work, it was possible to analyze the use of water-based paint sludge generated by washing mixing tanks. The sludge was used in the formulation and the proportion inserted in the formulas of the new water-based paints ranged from 11% to 30% by mass, resulting in 3 formulations. According to the elaborated formulation 5% to 11% of each raw material that contributed to the mass of solids in the paint, such as mineral fillers and acrylic resin, was removed. The physical chemical analyzes showed that the paint made with the least amount of sludge had characteristics and properties more similar to the paint usually produced by the company. There was no cost reduction with the adjustment of materials, in relation to the standard paint marketed by the company, due to the increase in density that occurred with the increase in sludge. The results obtained allowed us to conclude that it is possible to reuse water-based paint sludge to formulate a new paint, but that more adaptations in the formulation are necessary to achieve the physicochemical properties required by the company with a cost reduction that is attractive.
