dc.description.abstractThis work had as thematic the importance of encouraging reading in the initial grades of elementary school. Reading is very important for the development of the child in various aspects, such as school, social and cultural. In this context, it is fundamental to stimulate reading both by the school and the family. Therefore, the main focus of this work was to investigate, discuss and reflect on this important subject, and to discuss the benefits of reading for the child’s cognitive development, his / her fundamental role in the formation of the reading learner, and how important this pedagogical resource can help to elevate the student from the literacy stage to the literacy. The study for the accomplishment of this work focused on deepening the knowledge based on several authors of the theme, who affirm the great contribution that the reading provides for the progression of the student, speak of the need of the school, family and teacher to value this great educational resource. The considerations based on the authors presented, as well as on the National Curriculum Parameters, confirm that the student who is encouraged to read from the beginning of his school life, developing a taste for good reading from a young age, will certainly have a higher income in his school life and in their learning as a whole. As for the methodological procedures, the present work was carried out through a bibliographical review.
