The study is located at the Federal Technological University of Paraná, in the city of Two Neighbors / PR and intended to adjust mixed effect models for determination of the growth in diameter of Hovenia dulcis species and at the same time, assess the morphological characteristics of the trees. Quantitative samples were taken through partial stem analysis, since the qualitative data was collected through observation. They sampled a total of seventeen (17) individuals, divided into four (4) height classes. In partial stem analysis were collected two (2) an increase of rolls in two (2) points on the tree (the cardinal directions, north-south and east-west) by non-destructive method and mechanic with use of a probe Pressler. Soon after the comments were made and measurements of the rings through the software Image Pro-plus [marca registrada]. After tabulating the data, these were submitted to modeling with growth equations of mixed effects. Adjusting these models were made by the R software and using the theoretical models of Chapman-Richards and Schumacher, taking into account the calculation of AIC (Akaike Information Criterion) to choose the best model. Schumacher model had the lowest AIC value then being the model chosen. The mixed effect model considered that the growth in diameter may be different within groups of different height.
