dc.description.abstract | The present study consists in the development of a grease trap prototype with removable obstacles (baffles), and a comparative analysis between the prototype, with and without the obstacles, and a 19 liters commercial prefabricated grease trap. The developed prototype has the internal dimensions equal to 50 x 26 x 26 cm (length, width and height), and a working height of 15,5 cm. The trap was built with marine plywood, treated with water repellent, fixed with nails and screws, and sealed with silicone. A system was assembled with three devices, an inlet tank, where the mixture was poured, the analyzed grease trap and a tank to contain the passing effluent. The grease traps were tested with a controlled mixture of water and soybean oil, in three different concentrations: 50 g/L, 100 g/L e 150 g/L. It was determined a hydraulic retention time of 500 seconds for each experimental run in each grease trap, and compared the difference between the concentration retained inside the grease trap and the concentration of the effluent. The prototype showed to be more efficient in comparison with the prefabricated model. The experiment showed as well that the use of obstacles improves the performance in the same device. While the prefabricated grease trap had a retention ranging from 32,1%, for the lower concentration rates, and 61,3% to the higher concentrations rates, the retention of the prototype with baffles remained above 96%. The prototype without baffles had its retention varying from 65.4% to 94.5%, for the lowest and the highest concentration respectively. | |
