dc.description.abstract | The rectangular spouted bed emerges as a possible solution to the limitations that are encountered in traditional cylindrical geometry, which are difficult to scale-up and reduce efficiency. By means of bibliographical revisions it can be seen that cylindrical spouted beds are the most used in Brazil, however, internationally, the rectangular geometry has been studied and also applied. The spouted bed is mainly used for drying, but can also be applied in the food industry, pharmaceutical, among others. The main purpose of this work was to select a rectangular spouted bed system for the drying of particles in order to be constructed in the future in order to carry out studies related to the fluid dynamics of non-spherical particles and the stability of the spout of form that such research contributes to the scale-up of this equipment. In order to achieve this objective, the design of the rectangular spouted bed column, the slot and the piping between the air blower and the column was chosen. Then, the minimum spout velocity was calculated by correlations available in the literature, the air supply system was selected, as well as the necessary instrumentation for the system. Finally, the complete design of the spouted bed system was made. | |
