The objective of the present study was to verify genetic variability in modern soybean cultivars regarding oil and protein content, as well as to verify the influence of cultivation sites on the expression of these traits, and their effects on seed physiological quality. The work was conducted in six low and high altitude cultivation sites, with 28 modern genotypes from different breeding companies. The seeds were submitted to physiological quality tests, as well as the quantification of oil and protein contents. The experimental design was a randomized complete block in the field and completely randomized for laboratory tests. The obtained data were analyzed in the Genes and GGE biplot statistical program and the figures in the Sigmaplot program. Genotype environment interaction was verified at 5% probability. The M5917 IPRO, M5705 IPRO, M5838 IPRO and 58I60RSF IPRO genotypes performed better in physiological quality tests, thus observing good adaptability and stability in both sites. The cultivation environment influences the chemical composition of the seeds. In the higher altitude environment the association between oil and protein is significantly negative. Protein contents influence the physiological quality of seeds.
