dc.description.abstractThis paper aims to explain the importance of the History of Mathematics for teaching learning. The work is a bibliographical research with the intention of demystifying some mathematical principles based on the origin of their studies, according to the conceptions of several researchers and philosophers old and current. With this, the article seeks to explain the emergence of some mathematical expressions, the history and importance of geometry, and the relevance of the teaching of Mathematics in the present day and concluding with the fundamental role of the teacher in the construction of mathematical knowledge. The studies point to the importance of the knowledge of the history of mathematics, for the reason of facilitating its didactic application by the teacher, and assimilation of the concepts by the students. With this, the process of teaching learning becomes more enriching, since it allows to contemplate all the study of the meaning of the symbolic language that Mathematics had in the whole process of the development of civilizations.
