dc.description.abstractUnderstanding the main fraud problems in the world and interpreting the data available for analysis is a current challenge that requires interdisciplinary knowledge to complement the knowledge of computer professionals. Collaborative events often called Hackathons, Datathons, Codefests, Hack-Days, etc. have become relevant in various fields. Examples include informal and collaborative learning, creation of startups, arts and culture, open civic innovation, corporate innovation, and social issues. These events show interesting features that favor the collaborative environment and knowledge exchange to solve challenges, most often related to issues unknown to students and computer professionals. In this paper, we present an event format called Short Datathon adapted to reach a gap in collaborative event studies as an aid to the development of exploratory data analysis skills. We evaluated the Short Datathon in two case studies carried out at the Federal University of Technology - Parana, in which we address ´ the issue of tax evasion with real data. The first study was carried out during Technological Week with the participation of 12 undergraduate students from the Computing and Mechanics areas. In the second study, 8 college graduates and graduate students from the ares of Computing, Administration and Economics participated. We describe as a result of this work the qualitative aspects of the case studies and the perception of the participants obtained through questionnaires, highlighting the contribution of the knowledge acquired in the event that was favored by the interdisciplinary interaction. Participants stated that the event helped them to understand more about data analysis and visualization and that the experience with people from other areas during the event made data analysis more efficient. We can conclude that the results of the Short Datathon study are still preliminary because of the small number of participants, but by the answers we believe it to be a promising event.
