In a modern industrial context, the process of mechanical conformation of sheet metal takes a major role for industries, since it represents a great part of the conformation processes. The growing demand for products, coupled with the high competitiveness between companies makes it necessary to optimize processes. Industries that manufacture metal parts, especially metallurgical parts, are greatly benefited by increasingly rapid and assertive processes. Being driven by the need of new products, metallurgists should rely on wellestablished rules and guidelines. For industries that are in the field of folded metal parts, one of the most important project parameters is the length of de developed flat, also known as flat pattern. Properly calculated flats result in more assertive, and therefore more profitable, production processes. This study aims to experimentally determine an equation for calculating the bend deduction value in the flat pattern length. The final result is similar to the classic equation found in the literature, but it brings with it the particularities of the production processes of the company in which the experiments took place. The experimental procedure includes the manufacture and subsequent testing of special specimens made of steel. Based on the results obtained, a new method is proposed to determine the flat pattern length. This new equation has its constants adapted to the context of the material and machinery where the experiment took place, thus, it provides more reliable and specific results to the production process, and has a consequent decrease in errors if compared to the method know in the literature.
