dc.description.abstractThe Civil Construction Industry in Brazil has fundamental importance to the national economy and to the society as it involves financial transactions and a huge amount of labor employed. With such importance to the nation, the Brazilian legislation about the subject is extensive and objects of constant adjustments to try to shape up the needs of labor and workers. The competence in the development of laws is role played by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, which arrange and suits Regulatory Standards, dealing with various aspects as labor safety and medicine worker and binding the rules for all companies and employees working in all country. The Ministry of Labor and Employed also has rights to impose fines and even interdict the labor activities in case of irregularities found. This study shows a comparison between the amount of the fines cause by irregularities and the value the company spends to adapt their facilities and thereby avoid the fines. To do so, based on the legislation, it was developed a checklist of inspection, applied to a construction site of a private company in Curitiba, Brazil. With the analysis of the irregularities found, the fines that would be applied and the costs to adapt the living areas of the company studied as enforced by law, the conclusion is that the amount necessary to adapt the working environment to the provisions of the Regulatory Standards is around 20 to 30 per cent of the amount imposed if there was an inspection of the Ministry of Labor.
