Cyclones are equipment used for a long time, the first known patents are from the late 19th century. By providing a good result when it comes to separation of particles, being of easy design, have little maintenance and yet assist in control of pollutants in the environment, they are very used in industries of several segments. In this paper was simulated the outflow of a gas inside a cyclone in order to evaluate if the computational methods can reproduce precisely the results experimentally obtained. To do so was used the computational fluid dynamics. In special, this paper is designed to evaluate the predictive capacity of the turbulence model Reynolds Stress Model (RSM) related to simulation of cyclonic separators, which are characterized by highly anisotropic outflow. The simulation of the continuous phase was performed in unsteady state, while the injection of particles, to evaluate the cyclone collection efficiency using different particle diameters, was performed as post processing (assumed coupling of one way). The speed profiles were compared with the literature reference and the model was reliable. With that is concluded that the RSM model was efficient to describe the experiment.
