dc.description.abstractThis paper presents step-by-step the dimensioning of the steering system of the vehicle type baja belonging to the Procobaja team, bringing the design of the steering box, manufacture and installation in the vehicle. The purpose was to develop a mechanism that could be implemented by the procobaja team, using all the theoretical and technical resources available on the university campus and that could reach a curve radius equal to or inferior than the ones of the best teams in the Baja SAE segment. Thus, for the preparation of the document, it was researched in the literature concerning to the vehicle dynamics and through internal and external brainstorming (regional and national competitions), being possible to create the project. Engaging Engineering areas such as vehicle dynamics, machine elements, CAD, CAE, CAM, multibody systems, and manufacturing processes from the conventional to the most modern machining (CNC milling machine). The objectives were achieved, a compact and efficient system was produced so that the vehicle reached a curve radius of less than 2 meters with the pilot not withdrawing his hands from the steering wheel to make the maneuver. The device represents a great achievement for procobaja team, however, more dynamic tests are needed for system improvement, with variations of other suspension and steering factors that directly interfere with the performance of the set.
