dc.description.abstractThis work has the principal goal to identify the pattern of brain waves when a person is with open or closed eyes. The identification is based on monitoring the energy of alpha waves. Therefore, it was used the property of the signals decomposition from Wavelet Transform, for the EEG signal to be decomposed in the frequency range of the alpha waves. To achieve this goal it was necessary to develop a hardware capable to make EEG acquisition and serial communication with a computer. The software developed in MATLAB, in which the user can view the EEG signal and its frequency spectrum, the main brain rhythms (gamma, theta, alpha and beta) and identifying when the eyes are open or closed. The system was able to identify when the user is with open or closed eyes.
